Viscount

British Nobility

The Viscount is the fourth noble rank, and the word viscount comes from the Latin word (vice-comes), which means vicar. The title was first recorded in Britain in 1440, and it became popular in the seventeenth century. There are currently about 115 Viscounts.

The Viscount is addressed as Lord So-and-So, the wife as Lady So-and-So, the eldest son as one of the father’s sub-titles, and the other sons as Sheriff (Honorable).
