The Status
The British government has a department called the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) that is in charge of promoting British interests abroad. It works as a separate department with its own foreign minister and secretary of state. Its job is to deal with issues that come up because the UK is a member of the EU.
The FCDO advises the Foreign Secretary on all matters relating to international relations, including:
The formulation and conduct of the United Kingdom’s foreign policy
Liaison between Her Majesty’s Government and foreign governments, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations
High commissioning (i.e., diplomatic representation) in other countries
